Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain - is a third-person stealth action game with an open game world.

The events of the game take place in Afghanistan and Angola. The game world is open for free movement. The sequence of tasks is chosen by the player.

The main character of the game is the mercenary Venom Snake. He is trying to create a whole army of mercenaries to take revenge on his enemies. At the player's disposal are firearms, cars, tanks and other vehicles (even horses). But the emphasis in the game is on hidden movement and the use of non-lethal weapons against enemies (for example, darts with a tranquilizer). Depending on Snake's actions, the tactics and equipment of the enemy soldiers changes.

The main character's abilities are developed by improving his main military base, where he spends his time between operations. To build the base, you need to mine various resources, find some special items and complete additional tasks.
