The player controls the chosen nation and leads it through various stages of development. The game world is alive and dynamic. The game offers a non-linear technology tree and a national crafting economy. You can explore new lands, develop crafts, art and culture, engage in diplomacy, participate in military operations, build numerous structures and improvements.

You can play in both single player and multiplayer modes.

The game map is divided into hexagonal locations inhabited by different civilizations. At the beginning of the game, you are offered to choose the location of the continents and natural conditions, the level of difficulty, as well as the ruler. Players have to build cities, develop technologies and social institutions, seize new territories and resources, fight, engage in diplomacy. When a battle begins, a probable outcome is displayed, which can be accepted, or the battle can be played "manually".

Events unfold during 6 eras (Neolithic, Ancient World, Antiquity, Middle Ages, Early Modern, Industrial Age and Modern). To move to the next era, you need to reach a certain amount of population or master the necessary technologies.

The choice of civilization is not final. There are 10 civilizations for each era. When moving to the next era, you can choose another civilization, if it is not already occupied by another player. When changing civilization, the state loses part of the bonuses of the previous civilization. Each civilization has its own set of unique structures and special tendencies. Existing units of the population, moving into a new era, are automatically improved and receive the bonuses of the chosen civilization.
